African painting. This African acrylic painting depicts the Argungu fishing festival which takes place in the north western part of Nigeria in a state called Kebbi. The fishing festival lasts for four days. The climax of the four-day festival is the race by thousands of fishermen to the river. With their arms laden with gourds and traditionally made fishing nets, the fishermen compete to catch the largest fish. It is this competition that is captured in this painting. The gourds and nets can be seen continuing the horizon. This is a wonderful painting.
