Ibibio Mask African Mask
Ibibio masks are generally flat round masks with a small human face in the middle. They belong primarily to the Eket tribe which is just one of the various Ibibio subgroups in Nigeria. This mask tends to be used for ceremonies and performances called Abubom. The lunar design and pattern of the mask correspondences to the Ekets symbol expressed in connection between the great mother (mother earth) and the moon.
It has been suggested that the triangular design represents the new moon in the same way that mask itself suggests the full moon.
