Traditional Yoruba Carving
This African sculpture of a Yoruba woman is one, which would ordinarily be found in a Yoruba shrine. It represents an Esu, which is a guardian of the ritual way. It has the usual distinguishable feature of an Esu which is long phallic hairstyle, which falls down the back of her head. In each hand she holds a cockerel, on her head is a calabash; kneeling at each feet are devotees, and under one elbow is a drummer. Finally on her, back she carries a child. All in all, this is a wonderful representation of a Yoruba Esu shrine figure.
