Traditional Yoruba Chair
This traditional Yoruba chair has been constructed from two intricately carved pieces of wood which slots together to create this traditional style chair. The creativeness and skill of the carver can be quite clearly seen and appreciated when this piece is studied. The carving depicts two women wearing their traditional wrapper and head ties using a large pestle and mortar to prepare food. The man standing beside them is wearing trousers made out of traditional material and a native hat. In one hand he holds a machete, which suggests that he is either a farmer or a hunter. Beautiful motifs have been carved on both sides of the backrests of the chair as well as the seat of the chair making sure that this chair stands out as a functional piece of furniture, which exemplifies the craftsmanship and creativity of Yoruba carvers. This is a wonderful piece of furniture, which would most defiantly compliment any décor, or room in which it is placed.
