Yoruba Belt (Ifa Divination Belt)
Derived from the scared beaded sheath from Oka iron staff, Yoruba belts are worn in public ceremonies by Yoruba priestess and displayed in their homes and shrines. Beads and cowrie shells historically traded as currency continue to symbolize wealth and status. This Yoruba belt has aso’oke textile backing. All of the beads have been made out of glass and stitched by hand. It is a very labour intensive process but the end result is a stunning piece of Yoruba tradition.
